Drinking Water Distribution

NSID working
The North Springs Improvement District Water Distribution Department maintains and performs day-to-day operations on the 7,100 acres of waterlines, which include water main repair and replacement, meter reading, repair and replacement, valves and fire hydrant exercising, leak detection, and construction oversight. The distribution systems are constantly operated and maintained to reduce the risk of contamination from external or internal sources, thus ensuring safe and pleasant drinking water distribution and uninterrupted water service to residential and commercial customers.

Our exceptional state-certified operators are responsible for the District’s annual fire hydrant flushing/flow testing. This preventative maintenance program removes minerals and sediment accumulating in the water lines throughout the year.

Furthermore, the department oversees the Cross-Connection Control Program (CCC). This preventative maintenance program detects and controls cross connections and prevents the backflow of contaminants or foreign substances into the District’s water distribution system, as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection requires.
