Save Water

According to the U.S. EPA WaterSense program, showering is one of the leading ways we use water in the home, accounting for nearly 17 percent of residential indoor water use—for the average family, that adds up to almost 40 gallons per day. That’s nearly 1.2 trillion gallons of water used in the United States annually just for showering, or enough to supply the water needs of New York and New Jersey for a year!

By participating in the North Springs Improvement District showerhead exchange program, the average family can save up to 2,700 gallons per day per year. On a national scale, if every home in the United States participated, we could save more than 260 billion gallons of water annually.

With our free showerhead exchange, we’ve done the shopping for you. Here’s how it works.

Customers with an active NSID account can bring their old showerheads and may swap their outdated, water-wasting showerheads for brand-new showerheads that are 1.5 GPM water-efficient at our “Water Smarter” in-person events. Alternatively, these are available for pickup year-round at the district and while supplies last at no cost! The kit includes a free 5-minute shower timer to help conserve water and free plumbing tape to ensure a leak-free fit.

Please call (954) 796-5066 or email WardC@NSIDFL.GOV to arrange your showerhead exchange.

This EPA WaterSense Showerhead Bath Hack #1 video shows how easy it is to replace your showerhead.

Tip: It’s also a good idea to check and, if needed, replace the washer or “o” ring inside the showerhead while making this repair.
