Smart Leak Detector Rebate

To support continued water efficiency within the District, the North Springs Improvement District launched a new rebate program to help homeowners invest in Smart Leak Detection Systems (SLDs) and better manage their home water use. As of February 1, 2024, customers may be eligible for a rebate of up to $100 for purchasing and installing a new leak detection device.

What are Smart Leak Detectors?

A smart device called a Smart Leak Detector (SLD) may identify leaks. Many types of smart leak detection devices are available, ranging from moisture sensors to more complex models that allow customers to shut off their water remotely. Some SLDs can even learn the household’s water patterns and usage, identifying and alerting customers to higher-than-normal water use, which a leak may cause.

As large volumes of water cycle through your home’s pipe network to serve fixtures found in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and other major appliances, leaks are almost inevitable. Since leaks often start in locations that lack constant foot traffic, they go unnoticed until it’s too late. Whether it’s a burst pipe or a leaking dishwasher, smart homes’ best water leak detectors can speedily identify such faults and alert you. Repairing leaks in good time helps prevent potential damage and saves you damage control costs.

How it works?

These devices can rapidly alert you to unusual usage and possible leaks that could otherwise go undetected by learning the water use patterns in your home. Some models come as audio-alarm-only systems that sound alerts in the event of leaks. However, most smart leak detection systems are reactive and have a shut-off valve. When these systems detect abnormal water usage, they cut off the water flow by closing the valve. You can even remotely turn off your water with certain models. By installing smart leak detector devices, major leaks and potential property damage can be avoided.

How much do they cost?

Various types of smart water leak detection systems typically range in price from $50 to $300 on average and before the rebate.
